For a full list of the abbreviations used, refer to the acronyms and
abbreviations on pages 202-203. Mature age applicants and those
seeking admission on the basis of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or
foreign qualifications should consult the institution.
NSC
Minimum entry requirements for applicants writing NSC are shaded pink.
Degree study
Your Statement of Symbols or Certificate will indicate if you meet the
minimum entry requirements for degree study, which are four subjects
from the designated list below at level 4 (50-59%), your home language
at level 3 (40-49%), and English at level 2 (30-39%).
Approved designated subjects for degree study:
• Accounting
• Agricultural Science
• Business Studies
• Consumer Studies
• Dramatic Arts
• Economics
• Engineering Graphics & Design
• Geography
• History
• Information Technology
• Languages (one language of learning and teaching at a higher
education institution and two other recognised language subjects)
• Life Sciences
• Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy
• Music
• Physical Sciences
• Religion Studies
• Visual Arts
Where you see NSC Deg (four subjects at level 4) in the Programme
Choice List, this means that you must meet the above requirements. If
the institution has additional requirements, it will be indicated:

NSC Deg with Maths and Phys Sci 6 and Engl and LO 4 and two subjects
4 from the designated list
This means that in addition to an NSC pass meeting the minimum
standard required for entry into degree study, you must have passes in
Mathematics and Physical Science at level 6 and English home language,
or First Additional Language and Life Orientation at level 4. Two of the
three other subjects must be from the designated list.
Diploma study
Your results will indicate if you meet the minimum entry requirements
for diploma study, NSC Dip (four subjects at level 3), which are four
subjects including your home language at level 3 (40-49%) and English
at level 2 (30-39%). If the institution has additional requirements, it will
be indicated:
