CAO HANDBOOK ENTRY 2017

REMEMBER:
• Offers of places may be withdrawn if the conditions are not met or
if institutions discover that you have provided false information in your
application for admission.
• If you are applying to DUT, UKZN and UNIZULU, and you have
previously studied there, or are currently studying there, please
contact them first. In most cases, they will want you to apply directly
to them because your student number is valid for life.
Financial aid
Each institution has its own policies with respect to financial aid and
base their decisions on means tests, which are carried out to assess an
applicant's level of need.
If you are applying for financial aid, each institution to which you are
applying will require you to complete the relevant financial aid application
form and provide documentary evidence of your family’s income and
dependents (tax returns, pay slips, sworn affidavits, etc.). You should
start collecting this so that it is ready when you are asked for it.
Tick the box on the form if you think you qualify and wish to be
considered for financial aid.
• If you are a first-time applicant to study at DUT in 2017, (current Grade
12 or other) and you require NSFAS funding, you must apply online at
or call the NSFAS Call Centre on 0860 067 327 for
more information on how to apply.
• Please note that completing a form does not guarantee financial aid.
For further assistance, consult the Financial Aid and Scholarships
Department at DUT on 031 373 2553. (Only DUT applicants may
apply online for NSFAS funding. All other university applicants must
contact the university to which they are applying.)
• UKZN will send you an application for a student loan if they offer you
a place with provisional funding. This funding will only be confirmed
once all the relevant documents have been received.
• MUT and UNIZULU will wait until you are registered and have started
studying before awarding bursary loans.
Contact Student Support Services for bursary information at
Elangeni, Umfolozi and MajubaTVET colleges (page 191-193).
Contact details for Financial Aid Offices are on page 186–190.
Keep your receipt
The tear-off slip at the bottom of the back page of your application form
is your receipt.
Your CAO number
Your CAO number is your unique personal reference number and is
important. Make sure to keep a record of it – you will need it to
make payment and when contacting the CAO or any of the
institutions listed in this Handbook. Your CAO number is printed on the
application form.
