Financial aid
Each institution has its own policies in respect of financial aid and
bases its decisions on means tests, which are carried out to assess an
applicant's ability to pay.
If you are applying for financial aid, each institution to which you are
applying will require you to complete the relevant financial aid application
form and provide documentary evidence of your family’s income and
dependants (tax returns, pay slips, sworn affidavits etc.). You should start
collecting this so that it is ready when you are asked for it.
Tick the box on the form if you think you qualify and wish to be
considered for financial aid.
•
The
University of KwaZulu-Natal
will send you an application for
a student loan if they offer you a place with provisional funding. This
funding will only be confirmed once all the relevant documents have
been received.
•
Durban University of Technology, Mangosuthu University of
Technology
and the
University of Zululand
will wait until you are
registered and have started studying before awarding bursary loans.
Contact Student Support Services for bursary information at
Elangeni, Umfolozi and Majuba FET Colleges (pages 28-30).
Contact details for Financial Aid Offices are on pages 24-32.
Institutions want to know
what you were doing in
the year before you start
studying. If you will be
studying in 2014, please tick
the box that best describes
what you are doing in 2013.
Information about gender, race,
marital status, home language
and your current activity is
collected for government
statistical purposes and
does not influence selection
decisions.
As well as marking the appropriate box, if you require special
provision, such as wheelchair access or special computer
facilities, please contact the institution/s to which you are
applying to discuss your needs. Many institutions have a
designated counsellor for disabled students. Some have special
bursary funding from NSFAS and the Department of Labour.
