19. Other Study Options
Some programmes don’t have access routes but offer three and
four-year options based on the applicant's results in the NSC and in
selection tests. These programmes are indicated by ‘3/4 yrs’ in the
programme list under ‘duration’.
Finding out what else is available
If you have access to the internet, you will find lists of available
programmes and their entry requirements on our website

If you have not been selected for any of your choices, the CAO
can help with information about programmes that you may qualify

Private colleges and other institutions request details of applicants
who may be interested in studying with them.You may be approached
to see if you are interested in a particular programme.
Mid-year entry point
Some programmes have a second semester (mid-year) intake of
students during the year. You will find this information under ‘entry
term’ in the programme list on pages 68-164 or on the CAO website
. Let us know in writing (see page 40) if you wish to
be considered for any of these. Other programmes may also accept
students later in the year if they already have an equivalent of first
semester study. To check availability, contact the institution.
Extending your application forward to next year
You will be allowed to extend your

provided
you let us know in writing by
31 March 2016
, thereafter you will need
to make a new application.
If you have been ‘regretted’ by any of your choices, check the
entry requirements before applying to the same programmes again.
Distance learning (home study)
Distance learning programmes are offered through Elangeni TVET
College, Oval International Campus, Regent Business School or
UNISA. A list of programmes at these institutions and their entry
terms (except for UNISA) is in the CAO Handbook and on our website

Technical Vocational Education andTraining
(TVET) colleges
TVET colleges offer programmes for the National Certificate
(vocational) with an emphasis on practical training, as well as the
National Certificates. See 'Study Options' (page 28). These can be
combined with upgrading some of your NSC or Senior Certificate
subjects. If you choose the right combination of subjects it is easy
to transfer from an TVET college to a university of technology. It is
also possible to register for distance learning programmes at some
colleges. Contact the colleges for details (see institutions' contact
details on page 30-37).
