The institutions offer alternative access/extended programmes to
help applicants who may not meet the entry requirements for specific
degrees and diplomas. Most of these programmes only consider
applicants from a disadvantaged educational background. Some of
the programmes, when successfully completed, allow you to be
considered for admission to a particular programme of study. In other
programmes, you are admitted directly to degree or diploma studies,
and the initial modules are spread over a longer period than normal.
Programmes with access routes are indicated in the programme
list. The alphabet in the access route column in the programme lists
indicates which access programme applies.
DURBAN UNIVERSITY OFTECHNOLOGY
1. Access Course Engineering
DU-I-ACR
Six-month access course.
NSC Dip with NSC Dip with Engl HL/FAL 4 and Maths and Phys
Sci 3. OR Senior Cert with Maths and Phys Sci 'E' HG/'E' SG and
a pass in Engl OR N4 or equivalent certificate with passes (>50%)
in four approved subjects (two of which must be Mathematics and
Physical science) and have passed one of the official language at least
on First Language Standard Grade and the other official language at
least Second Language Standard grade.
MANGOSUTHU UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY
(Access Courses A to L)
A. Access Course Analytical Chemistry
MN-M-ANA
Six-month access course.
NSC Dip with Engl and Maths and Phys Sci 3. OR Senior Cert
with Engl and Maths 'E' SG and Phys Sc 'E' HG. OR N3 with Maths
and Phys Sci and Grade 12 Engl and another language.
Students who pass may be accepted for the N Dip Analytical
Chemistry.
