Other requirements
If there are other entry requirements, such as an N Dip, the list will
tell you what qualification you must have to enter these programmes.
If you do not already have this qualification, you should apply for that
programme first.
6. Entry semester
The time of year the programme starts. There are two entry
semesters:
1 – Entry in the first semester, which starts between January and
February.
2 – Entry in the second semester, which starts between June and
August.
7. Duration
The minimum number of months or years you would have to study.
Please note that part-time study takes longer than full-time study.
8. Residence offered
A 'yes' or 'no' in this column indicates whether or not this institution
and campus offers residence. Please note that where residence is
offered, spaces will be given to applicants by institutions according to
the institutions' terms and conditions. Institutions will not be able to
accommodate all applicants who require residence.
9. Financial aid offered
A yes or no in this column indicates whether or not this institution
offers financial aid. Please note that where financial aid is offered,
funding will be given to applicants by institutions according to the
institutions' and NSFAS terms and conditions. Institutions and NSFAS
will not be able to fund all applicants who require financial aid.
10. Access route
A, B, C etc. in this column indicates that the programme has an access
route for applicants who do not meet the entry requirements. More
information can be found in 'Alternative access routes' (page 167-171).
11. Additional programme notes
This column will indicate any additional programme information that
the institution wishes to inform you of.
Colour codes
The different colours used in the programme list have different
meanings:
Pink:
Part-time study. (For full details of the advantages and
disadvantages of part-time study, refer to
page 28.)
Blue:
Programmes requiring relevant work experience or relevant
current employment.
Brown:
A new programme waiting for approval. Contact the
institution to confirm that the programme will run.
NOTE:
The entry requirements listed in this Handbook are minimum requirements
only and possession of these requirements does not guarantee admission.
Institutions' selection processes frequently include additional requirements,
especially for programmes that are in high demand. If you do not have the entry
requirements stipulated, but you have other, equivalent qualifications – such as N4,
N5 or foreign qualifications – please consult the institution concerned.
