          * 1. Applicants are ranked by matric results and first choice architecture. Note:
        
        
          This programme may be replaced in 2017 by a 3 year degree programme.
        
        
          In addition to the above, the following will be required for admission to
        
        
          the proposed degree programme:  1) National Senior Certificate (NSC)
        
        
          Requirements: Mathematics: Level 3 (40%-49%); English (Primary): Level
        
        
          3 ( 40%-49%) OR English (First additional):  Level 3 (40%-49%). In addition,
        
        
          four of the following subjects on level 4  or above are required: Physical
        
        
          Science; Biology; English; Mathematics; Visual Art; History; Geography;
        
        
          Economics; Business Studies; Accounting; Agricultural Sciences; Dramatic
        
        
          Arts; Engineering Graphics and Design; Consumer Studies; Information
        
        
          Technology; Any other language Languages; Life Sciences; Religious Studies

          * 2. You will need to have a National Senior Certificate or its equivalent to
        
        
          enter the first year of study. Further to this, there is a selection process which
        
        
          will be guided by a set of criteria which include evidence of a high standard
        
        
          of creativity and interest in art and an adequate level of written and spoken
        
        
          English. Art as a qualifying subject will be an advantage. You will need to
        
        
          come to an interview to which you should bring a portfolio of at least 20
        
        
          drawings of objects drawn from life and a self - portrait drawn from a mirror.
        
        
          Additional creative work (drawings, paintings, sculpture, prints, etc) will be
        
        
          an advantage. At the interview you will be required to complete a 40 minute
        
        
          visual-comprehension test.  Formal interviews are held by appointment from
        
        
          August but you are welcome to visit the Department by appointment at any
        
        
          time.
        
        
          * 3. Students are selected on the merits of a portfolio and an entrance
        
        
          examination. Studying the subject “Visual Arts” for matric is recommended
        
        
          but not compulsory. Please DO NOT send portfolios to the CAO to send
        
        
          to the Department of Graphic Design. Bring your portfolio and your CAO
        
        
          number, to the Department of Graphic Design when attending the APTITUDE
        
        
          TEST and the INTERVIEW. After registering with the CAO, if you have not
        
        
          received information about the dates of the Aptitude test, please contact the

          * 4. Applicants must present themselves for an interview and test at the
        
        
          department. Portfolio: Portfolios are to be submitted at the interview.  The
        
        
          Portfolio is to consist of any of your work that you have done to date (drawings
        
        
          or crafts).  Interviews/Testing: All applicants have to present themselves
        
        
          for an interview and test at the Department. These will be held in October/
        
        
          November /December 2016.
